Department of Immigration, Ministry of Home Affairs
The Department of Immigration, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, would like to inform and request the general public to take note of the following requirements:
- Bhutanese
Bhutanese entering or exiting the country shall be required to produce a passport or citizenship identity card and complete immigration formalities at all land ports of entry/exit with effect from 23 September 2022. This includes Bhutanese exiting or entering the country after visiting towns across the border for any purpose or duration.
However, inter-Dzongkhag travel via India in public/private vehicles shall continue to be facilitated based on CPMS registration.
- Other residents
Other residents of Bhutan shall be required to complete immigration formalities at all land ports of entry/exit on the basis of the permit issued by the Department of Immigration or Department of Civil Registration and Census.
- Foreigners
Foreigners shall continue to be facilitated entry and exit in accordance with existing immigration requirements and formalities.
